Learning Support

At Salvatorian College we are committed to offering an inclusive educational experience to ensure the best possible progress of all our pupils.  We value every member of our school community and constantly strive to encourage achievement and build self-esteem and confidence as a learner.

Secondary Transfer

Liaison with Primary Schools takes place early in the summer term.  Feeder schools indicate any students who may need additional support or focused visits prior to transfer. Annual reviews are attended. In some cases we offer an additional opportunity to visit and spend time prior to our Year 6 Induction Day.

During the first 2 weeks at Salvatorian College students complete Cognitive Ability (CATS) tests, reading, spelling and writing tests.  This helps us to further identify pupils who may need a little extra support.

Support available in the school

In our school we believe all pupils should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We update our Learning Support Register regularly and provide Provision Plans for staff to aid planning. Learning Support Assistants are deployed in lessons to support the inclusive practice of our teaching staff.  Our team of Learning Support Assistants use their knowledge and specialist skills to support the boys on the Learning Support Register.  We work closely with the Educational Psychologist, Speech & Language Therapists, the Sensory & Communication Team, CAMHS, our Careers Adviser, and many more.

We value children’s differences and endeavour to tailor the support to meet their needs.  To achieve this it is essential that the home-school link is very strong.

The range of additional support to overcome fairness to learning is on offer.  In addition to the interventions put in place, the following are some examples of what the department offers:
